Praecepta Call for Scores
Praecepta's 2023-24 Call for Scores is no longer accepting submissions as of January 10, 2024. Our winner was announced via email and on our public social media pages.
Overview
Praecepta is the student new music organization at Bowling Green State University in Bowling Green, OH. We aim to promote the growth of contemporary music in our community through performance opportunities, guest artists, and interactive meetings.
The winner of this call for scores will receive a prize of $100USD and have their work performed at the Praecepta Mini Festival. The festival will occur from March 22–24, 2024 at Bowling Green State University (Bowling Green, OH). The winning composer is encouraged, but not required, to attend the festival.
Eligibility Guidelines
Composers of all ages, nationalities, and backgrounds are welcomed to submit!
Submission Guidelines
The deadline for submission is 11:59 PM EST, January 10, 2024.
Only one (1) submission per applicant.
Maximum duration of each submission is 15 minutes. There is no minumum duration.
Traditional notation is not required, but all scores must be legible.
All works must be submitted anonymously. All identifying marks of the composer (name, logo, etc.) must be removed from the score and file name.
Required file name format: Praecepta_24[Title_of_Piece].pdf
We are accepting scores for SOPRANO, SAXOPHONE, CELLO, PERCUSSION, AND PIANO. One player to each part.
Submissions may utilize the entire instrumentation or a subset of the ensemble (minimum 2 instruments). No solo pieces will be accepted.
This list of instrumentation may be updated throughout the submission period.

Works for electronics are eligible under the following guidelines:
Live processing only through Max MSP, Ableton, or Supercollider
Maximum of two microphones
Stereo sound only
Failure to meet any of these requirements will result in immediate disqualification.
Adjudication
Submissions will be reviewed by the members of the Paecepta Executive Board as well as the performers of the ensemble.
The winner will be selected and notified by email February 20, 2023.
Winning composers must be prepared to promptly supply parts and other performance materials for their selected compositions.
Composers are heavily encouraged, but not required to attend the performance. We will attempt to raise funds to assist in travel expenses, but we can not guarantee financial assistance.
